Movie Directors from Hell

Consider the following film directors:  Gurinder Chaddha, Mira Nair, Deepa Mehta.

What do they have in common? They are all so-called international film makers of indian origin, who make films usually based in india, women and things around them. All of them have obtained some amount of international acclaim (at least portrayed so in indian media).

These are all directors whose movies i think are bad, pretend to be showcasing various hues indian culture and made-for-western-audiences. They are not real movies in that sense, most of them are made hoping for internationa awards, and accolades.

To take some examples of the movies made by these directors: Bride and Prejudice, Monsoon Wedding, Water, Bend it Like Beckham - all have india as a theme, woven with a storyline - in most cases a very unrealistic one - things with which indian audiences cannot relate (consider Monsoon Wedding for eg: -several sequences in the movie are totally alien to an average indian! And the movie is made around an indian wedding ..!).

Yes movie directors.. can take liberty of making whatever crap they want. But, unfortunately they are often lapped up by western audiences as if these represent real india (well... woman director, that too from india - .. now how much more exotic can you get !).. not even close. These are badly made movies (watch Bride and Prejudice to convince yourself !), deserving no attention, much less any international reward.

It is almost as if, these directors from hell, are playing to the gallery; and making movies to garner awards, and no other real purpose.

Movie Review: Darna Zaroori Hai

Rating:  ** 1/2

Very much on the lines of the earlier movie: 'Darna Mana Hai', but less imaginative.

The stories covered in this movie are not as interesting and diverse as those covered in 'Darna Mana Hai', but they are interesting, if not great. Some of them do not make much sense or did not make much sense to me, especially the one with Amitabh Bachhan in it.

So, overall average, falls short of expectations, and could have been much better (storylines). We have seen enough of sudden sounds, and clever camerawork. Pls pay some attention to scripts as well.

And if you were not aware, all the six different stories in the movie have been directed by different directors (now thats a first!).

Movie Review: Underworld Evolution

Rating: **

This is a movie you probably do not want to see, unless the world of warevolves and strange creatures in the dark interest you. No its not a horror movie, but about the lives of generations of warevolves and hybrid (wolves, bats, humans) creatures; indulging in fights.

Perhaps there are people who like this kind of stuff, i am amazed that such movies are even released in India. They are just not for indian audiences.  A person with more eclectic taste in these kind of stories would award it better rating.

Although the special effects and the strange creatures were done well.

Again: Why do they make these kinds of movies. Is there an audience for these, anywhere in the world??
